Welcoming Dr. Joanne Smith to One Community Health in White Salmon and Stevenson
One Community Health is thrilled to welcome Dr. Joanne Smith, a dedicated and experienced pediatrician, to our team in White Salmon and Stevenson! Dr. Smith brings a deep passion for children’s health and a wealth of experience in pediatrics, making her a wonderful addition to our community.
A Journey Rooted in Care and Community
Dr. Smith was born in England but moved to Indiana as a child, where she met Dr. Hankins (OCH Hood River’s beloved pediatrician) in middle school—marking the start of a lifelong friendship. She attended the University of Richmond, where she met her husband, Eric, before continuing her medical education in Indiana. She completed her medical school and residency at Riley Hospital for Children, with the first two years on the Notre Dame campus.
A New Adventure in the Gorge
Earlier this year, Dr. Smith and Eric made the exciting move to Hood River, though they’ve been visiting the area for over two decades to spend time with Dr. Hankins and her family. The couple is eager to explore more of the Gorge’s natural beauty, particularly through their shared love of hiking.
Their two grown children, Fiona and Garrett, are also thriving in the Pacific Northwest. Fiona is involved with the Bingen Community Theater, while Garrett works as a tree care technician in Seattle.
Passion for Pediatrics
Dr. Smith has a special interest in sleep hygiene, skin conditions, and mental health, and she is dedicated to providing compassionate care to children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents. She values building meaningful relationships with her patients and their families and understands how important it is for parents to feel supported in their child’s healthcare journey.
Leaving her patients in Indiana was a difficult decision, but she is excited to start this new chapter in the Gorge, forming strong connections with local families and ensuring children receive the highest quality care.
